The relationship between the selection of book cover materials and the quality of bookbinding

There are many books in the selection of cover materials that do not take into account the difficulties and effects of processing, causing various quality problems. The following lists some situations, please analyze.

1. The thickness of the cover paper and the paper thickness of the book block are different

In order to decorate the appearance of the book and improve the binding effect of the book, there are now many books whose cover thickness differs greatly from the quantitative content of the paper in the book block. After the book is bound into a book, the tension between the two is too different. After the wireless glue is bound, the cover is raised Then the first page of the book block was pulled off to reveal the rubber bottom or the pages were pulled off, resulting in unqualified products, which caused a conflict between the publisher and the processor. In the case of such products, a single liner or ring liner with a moderate amount can be added between the two to distribute the tension evenly to solve the above problems, but the publisher often does not consider this aspect; in addition, the cover indentation When the pressure is increased, this problem can also be solved, but it is easy to break and collapse.

2. Improper cover design and material selection cause crease fracture

Now the thickness of the book cover is getting larger and larger. The paper with a basis weight of 200g / m2 or 250g / m2 of paperboard needs to be added with a front fold process during design. The result is: (1) The front crease is broken and the imprint is broken Exposing the bottom of the paper, destroying the quality of the book; (2) It is very difficult to bind the front cover of the cover with a basis weight of 200g / m2 or more, the machine cannot accurately indent, and it needs to be scratched one by one manually and the quality cannot be guaranteed. It also caused unqualified products to appear.

3. The length of the cover is shorter than the length of the book block resulting in a dirty book

When the publisher designs the cover, most of the cover length is about 7mm shorter than the book block. When the cover is coated with wireless adhesive binding, the glue on the back of the book is exposed, and the cover is exposed when the cover is transported. The glue left on the conveyor belt or the lower board will stain the book. At present, when the publishing house designs the cover, the opening below 32 is basically double-linked. The two covers are designed together at the junction where no cuts are made, and the entire cover is left and right. I do not know whether this is to save paper, or do not understand the binding process. If the size of the length of the book is given at the time of design (more than 7mm per foot), the phenomenon of dirty belts and dirty books can be completely solved, but this problem has been ignored for several years.

4. The design pattern leaves no room for processing

Some American editors design some frame with large color difference on the cover, do not consider the difficulty of binding, and do not understand the national quality standards of post-press binding, resulting in unsatisfactory results when binding. For example: to bind a paperback book (wireless glue binding), the thickness is 12mm, the spine part is designed with black characters on the all-white background, and the cover and back cover are full-page with black text on the black background. The book spine must not be black. This kind of request is too difficult. According to the national CY / T288-1999 binding quality requirements and inspection methods-paperback 3, 4, and 5: "The spine word translation error is based on the center line of the back of the book, and the thickness of the back of the book is 10mm or less. Translation tolerance ≤1.0mm; the book back thickness is greater than 20mm and less than or equal to 30mm, the spine character translation tolerance is 2.5mm ";" the spine character skew tolerance is 0.5mm smaller than the spine character translation tolerance " . The tolerance of the back of the book according to the specified thickness of 12mm should be ≤1.2mm, but how can such a black and white design meet the requirements of the processor "black is not white, white is not black"?

5. "Blood Book" increases the difficulty of binding and processing

Now there is a book called "Blood Book", that is, after book binding processing and cutting the finished product, it is required to expose the frame and line marks on the cut, and form a straight line pattern on the cut part. This process needs to be folded, glued, matched, wrapped, and cut, and the exposed marks are processed neatly on a straight line.
