DuPontTM Delrin® Technology Creates Dry Filling System (I)

The DK transfer component series from Regina Sud, the leading manufacturer of conveyor belts/belts, is based on DuPont's best-selling Delrin® acetal resin and new grades of materials formulated with Kevlar®. This material is specially developed for high-performance glass containers and filling transfer systems.

The low friction coefficient and low wear rate of this new grade of Delrin® 100KM means that the high-speed delivery system equipped with the Regina DK drive chain/belt is comparable to the previous equipment made of DuPont acetal resin grade material. Better wear resistance. DuPont acetal resin grade materials have been used in the bottling plant conveyor belts for the past 20 years. This means that for the first time glass bottles, cans and PET filling lines can use “dry” systems (using much less lubricant than before or no lubricant at all) compared to systems using metal chain conveyors. Have a longer continuous service period, fewer planned and unplanned downtime.
The result is a significant increase in production, as well as a reduction in the cost of glass bottle manufacturers and filling equipment: it saves the costs of equipment investment and equipment operation caused by the installation of lubrication equipment. Changing to a “dry” environment also means having a better working environment and less mess for factory employees.
Delrin® is a solid, lightweight, durable, wear-resistant, low-friction, low-noise, high-performance acetal resin solution for today's filling industry. It offers enhanced quality and performance, superior reliability and better design freedom than metal and other plastic solutions.
The advantage of using Delrin® 100KM on a glass bottling line is that the same material can be used for all beverage container production lines in the factory, including aluminum cans and PET bottles. So far, individual plants may be equipped with both plastic (for cans and PET bottles) and metal (for glass bottles) delivery systems. The use of Delrin® 100KM throughout the plant gives the filling plant the production flexibility it needs in today's competitive environment.

Prior to the commercial launch, the Delrin® 100KM based transmission system, which was completed in early 1999 with the cooperation of Regina Sud SpA of Cernusco Lombardone near Milan, Italy, has achieved market success. The results have been extremely successful. Regina reported that more than 50% of its customers now specify the use of DuPont's new acetal resin-based conveyor belts that are marketed under the Regina`s DK brand. (To be continued)
