When the plant branches or leaves are cut, the tensioned water column in the conduit breaks and the water column contracts from the incision to the inside. Put the cut material into the pressure chamber of the instrument (see below for the operating procedure), so that one end of the slit extends out of the room and is pressurized, so that the tension in the branches or leaves is rebalanced and the small water column is pushed back to the surface of the cut surface. All the pressure is the water potential of the plant.

How to assemble and use the instrument:

Measurement steps:
1. Preparation of the instrument:
Remove the pressure chamber cover, install the corresponding size hole (seam) metal gasket and rubber gasket according to the requirements of the measured materials, and close the intake valve and exhaust valve. In order to avoid the influence of the temperature rise in the pressure chamber and the drying of the air when the instrument is pressurized too high. The wet gauze block can be placed on the bottom of the pressure chamber (note: do not block the air intake) or cover the material.
2. Sampling and loading:
Use a small blade to cut the test sample (branches, stalked leaves, grass blades, or aerial parts of the seedlings, etc.), and the petioles and branches should have a length of more than 3 cm to facilitate fixation to the gasket. If the sample cannot be measured immediately, it should be quickly placed in a plastic bag or slightly moist gauze to prevent water loss. The material of the material should be flattened, otherwise a thin vertical smooth cut should be made.
The material is passed through a hole (slit) in the lid to expose the cut end by a few millimeters. Rotate the material with a pressure cap to seal the material (to make the seal without damaging the material, which requires operational experience). In order to reduce moisture loss, the cover should be placed back as soon as possible so that it descends along the groove and rotates clockwise. (If the gasket slides, you can use the tweezers when fixing.)
Close the pressure chamber.
Remember not to inadvertently pressurize when the lid is not covered, so as not to cause the risk of the pressure chamber cover coming out!!
