Industry's Big Three Join Hands to Create New Label Atlas

By using Herma sticker materials and HP's HP Indigo digital printing technology, AB Graphic has produced a new label template atlas, demonstrating new concepts and highly complex label shapes. This is also to demonstrate AB. Graphic's redesigned Digilase Series 3 laser die-cutting system offers outstanding performance.

The redesigned Digitase Series 3 has further enhanced accuracy, enabling job conversion during operation and greater productivity. The laser heads of this equipment have been retrofitted with new products that can enhance cutting performance and are suitable for a wider range of materials. According to the introduction of AB Graphic, the only consumables that need to be replaced on the equipment is the filter of the flue gas adsorption system.

The label for the template album was specifically designed to be reel-wrapped in Barcelona using the HP HP Indigo digital press and to use contactless laser die-cutting prior to making the template book.

An important consideration in material selection is the uniform application of adhesives. In general, coating thicknesses of ±3 g/m2 are common on materials, which leads to changes in the amount of adhesive used up to 15%. Herma reminds that, especially for laser die cutting, such changes will bring unsatisfactory results when removing die cutting waste. AB Graphic added that the laser die-cutting energy control is precise enough to ensure removal of the surface layer and adhesive layer without damaging the bottom paper, which requires high accuracy in the production of backing paper and label materials. The adhesive application is very demanding and requires as little change as possible. Dr. Ulli Nagele, head of R&D at Herma, emphasized that the special curtain coating we use enables us to achieve a particularly consistent coating. In a cross-section, the peaks and valleys of the binder no longer exist.
